Black History Month - Tribute
My character bleeds through my eyes, my pain and joy shall shine through my walk and for certain my skin shall tell half of the story with which my actions shall tell the rest. I am comfortable in my shell from which the one in the heavens has blessed me with. Yet I do not portray a shellish persona for I am unapologetically not afraid to be myself. The moment we stop loving our skin, loving our lineage, and loving our gifts from God is the moment we give the world and society the power over us to be the source of that love. Let YOU shine brighter than any fallacy or false representation you ever attempted to live up to. For YOU are uniquely special and worthy of greatness just by being.
African-American History/ Black History month is upon us and this photo series is not for me but for my brothers and sisters that cringe at their flaws and weaknesses. UNAPOLOGETIC. Embrace those traits because that is what makes up who you are as an individual. Embrace the raw essence of the life that you live for that alone is enough to appreciate every breath that we are allowed to take. We reflect on the pioneers and those that have come before us and we take note of the past, we seize the present moment, and we dream for better futures. One way that we get to a better future is by looking at ourselves in the present state, unapologetically loving the person in the mirror for that person will craft a progressive future.
The beautiful souls that you see here are mere representations of you. They are not only black but they are fierce, intelligent, strong, smart, bold, visionary and most importantly they are themselves. You may see signs of joy, pain, mystique, curiosity and even sternness and that is truth and you as a viewer should accept it as such. Let it BE, do not make sense of the beauty or stereotype the individual let the being BE. So embrace your flaws and perfections, and seize the true essence of who you are and unapologetically whether, black, brown, white, or any color on the spectrum continue to……BE.
Blessings and good will. More from this series is to come!
